ROMANTIC ESCAPE TO CHAMPAGNE RIDGE
It had been a hectic couple weeks, J and I desperately needed some quality time away from the city hustle: so we decided to escape into the rumoured romantic terrains of Champagne Ridge. Right after work we jumped into our car and drove off to Kajiado for our romantic escape. It took us about two hours to get from Lavington to Ngong in Nairobi’s rush hour traffic.
We arrived at Kona Baridi just as the sun was setting. It was such an incredible spectacle – full of rich, assorted tones of red. We stopped the car rather instinctively to admire the large fiery ball slowly dipping into the hills. Our getaway was already off to a climactic start. We hang around there till the sun dropped and noticed more and more people gathering around for sun downers. Who knew all these couples knew this was the place to go for a romantic escape. When finally hit the road again relying on google maps, sure enough we were able to find our house 40 minutes later.
The groundsmen gave us the warmest welcome into our airbnb helping settle in our luggage. They lit up the fireplace which was in the perfect outdoor living space below the house. We sat there after dinner drinking wine and star-gazing through a chilly evening.
The next morning I stumbled out of bed fairly early excited to catch the sunrise. All I found looking out of the large glass window and door frames was dense clouds and fog. There was no debate on what needed to happen next, I decided to sleep in.I must have been knocked out for 3 hours because when I woke up everything was bright and sunny.
We went out and decided to do a mini-hike around the property. It was a beautiful sunny day and we were standing right in the middle of Champagne Ridge’s chain of hills. We settled back to returning to our temporary new home because it was such an incredible residence. On the way back in, we discovered a cute little swing-set faced towards the ridge.
I was pretty hungry so I went straight into the kitchen to whip up some brunch. I must say I was impressed with all the amenities the little kitchen had.I thought it was a good idea to embrace the outdoor living patio the airbnb had so I set up the area for a perfect ‘breakfast and views’ theme to surprise my boyfriend as a pre-birthday gift. Here is what I made.
I’m one big brunch and views lover!
After the perfect brunch we just basked in the outdoor patio talking about life, relaxing and re-learning how to breathe slower. I spent some time journaling for a bit and doing some reading. It was the perfect way to decompress and take a digital detox. As another perfect sun set on the backdrop of the hills I realised I had not touched my phone. It felt good mentally. I found myself retreating into the kitchen for a little bit more of that kitchen therapy I had enjoyed only hours before. In an attempt to make a chicken curry that went terribly south, I realised I had used way too many chillies. Back up was fruit , yoghurt and wine which we had plentifully stocked.
The next morning I slept in. or was trying to. The window blinds were open exposing views of the hills dramatically come to life as the first light fell over the serene beautiful horizon. I had to get up. We grabbed the camera and went for a short walk. In those two days I had never seen Champagne ridge sparkling in the golden rays of the morning sun like this.
Once again we prepped some delicious brunch and had it outside.
Romantic escape brunch check!
I was awestruck by the growingly stunning scenery.
sunset yoga during romantic escape, check!
It was a warmer day and we decided to go for a walk once more. There is something about being outdoors in the middle of nature that restores your energies and I couldn’t get enough of it.My romantic escape was going better than I wished. I asked J to give me some yoga motivation and watching him was pretty infectious so I joined him too. We hang out in the patio that afternoon doing some yoga
Post yoga it only felt right that we try out the outdoor bath.
and yes it was perfectly magical and romantic with the hot afternoon sun about to dip into the hills of champagne ridge. I was lost in another world. A happy world.
